MFA Setup Procedure for Microsoft Office
Step 1: Log into portal.office365.com. You will see the screen below stating that more information is required
Step 2: Click “Next”
Next, you will be asked to either choose an MFA method. Since you should already have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on your phone (for VPN), not to mention, it’s easier, we suggest using this.
*** Important: Make sure to select “Allow Notifications” when using the Microsoft Authenticator App ***
Step 3: Click “Next”
Step 4: Within the Microsoft Authenticator app, tap the “+” at the top right shown below:
Step 5: Select “work or school account” shown below:
Alternatively, On Android Phones, Press the Action Overflow Button in the Top Right.
Choose Add an Account:
Choose Work Account:
(Remaining steps are the Same as with the iPhone)

Step 6: Aim your phone’s camera on the QR code on your browser and click “Next” shown below:
Step 7: You should now receive a prompt on your phone via the Microsoft Authenticator App asking you to “Approve” or “Deny” the request. Please click “Approve”. Please keep in mind that there is a time out period of 10 seconds to make your selection otherwise, you’ll have to start again.
Once Approved, you will see the below screen to proceed to the next step:
Step 8: Click “Next”.
Step 9: Enter your mobile number to receive a text for validation (the “text me a code” is set to default). This is only for the first-time setup process. The Microsoft Authenticator app will be your default method for MFA.
Step 10: Click “Next”.
Step 11: Enter the code you received via your text.
New Additional Steps Required for Android Phones Only:
For Android Phones, You may need to use a new Email Client on your Android Phone that Supports MFA. Microsoft suggests their official Outlook app for Android which we highly recommend. To Download and configure the Android App:
Android Step 1: Download the Outlook app from the Android App Store
Android Step 2: After Opening the Application, Touch the get started button.
Android Step 3: When Prompted, Enter your work email address and password.
Android Step 4: After Signing in, If you already have MFA Setup, you will likely get an MFA Challenge on your Android Phone. Click Approve on the Pop-up or the Notification in your notification bar.
